How It Works

Our Gymbaroo program provides both free play and structured play within a familiar routine. Both forms of play are extremely important for brain development and each have their place in our program. Each term is planned over 10 weeks, around a theme, with a weekly topic related to that theme being explored.

There are 2 parts to our program BabyROO (for the first year of life) & GymbaROO Toddler / Pre schooler classes, each are structured slightly differently.

BabyROO The first year of life

Level 1 Non - mobile babies, Non Mobile babies 2-4 months, Non-Mobile babies 5-7 months

BabyROO offers 45 minutes of time to connect with your baby. During these classes you are given information about infant development and how reflexes help your baby survive and learn about thier world. We provide activities for you to use at home to ensure healthy brain development and Smart Start by Margaret Sasse is available for those who would like a handbook for home.

Our BabyROO sessions include lots of help with tummy time activities vital to brain development and learning. Research has proved that tummy time is one of the most important stages to help your child learn more about themselves and their environment.

The classes are graded into BabyROO Platypus (for babies new born and older who are not yet strong on their tummies) and BabyROO Goannas (for babies who are holding their heads up well, may be rolling but not yet crawling). Classes cover activities such as massage, auditory activities, movement, gentle exercises, music/rhythm/dance, visual (eye tracking) plus lots and lots of fun ideas for tummy time.

Level 2 - Mobile Babies 7-12 months

These babies are happiest on their tummy (i.e. rolling onto tummies, spinning, moving backwards. moving forwards), commando crawling (tummy crawling) and creeping up on all 4's.

Wombats classes are part of our BabyROO program and include all of the activities listed above however the format is the same as the GymbaROO classes- Free play/ mat time/ Equipment time/ Music time.

GymbaROO Walkers, Toddlers & Preschoolers

Throughout the term we cover all areas of development - gross motor and fine motor, vision, auditory... Our sessions offer a specific routine for your child plus some challenges throughout the term. The 45min classes includes:

  • Free play - Each lesson begins with 5 min free explorative play on our large equipment and is a nice time to socialise with other parents and children. Free play is followed by mat time.
  • Mat time - Mat time starts with bubbles and music. The parents and children are invited to come and sit on the mat together as a group and sing our hello song. This is a time for you and your child and we ask that during this time you do not talk to other parents. Small equipment skills (balls etc), exercises, massage and a dance will follow. Each exercise is shown and explained to you to enable you to do the same at home (SMART START is available if you would like a handbook). This 20 mins on the mat finishes with our special treasure bag time which follows the theme for the term. This is loved by the children and is important for language, social interaction, tactile experiences, imagination, and reinforces the word for the week which is quickly flashed to your child. This stimulates memory and pre-reading skills. Being fully involved with the activities of your child is beneficial for all children and enhances love, security, joy and learning.
  • Equipment time - Another 10 mins on our specially designed equipment will give the chance for your child to exercise his skills. We have a whole room full of equipment where your children can experiment with their bodies and their own personal capabilities. Teachers are always nearby to offer guidance and teach new skills. Older children will enjoy the challenge of following the circuit and practising new movement exercises. The equipment circuit is changed every two to three weeks to introduce new challenges.
  • Music time - The session is concluded with music and parachute time. Each week we have a musical instrument to play and dance with and our big colourful parachute comes out for the children to lie under or play games with. Then everyone sings our traditional goodbye song and gets back their GymbaROO scrapbook to talk about at home. The week's picture and word are also available for those interested.

Why is it important to come to GymbaROO classes through each developmental stage?

The Gymbaroo program is currently a five year program designed to follow the way that the brain grows and develops from birth through to reading and writing at school.

The program is designed sequentially from six weeks of age right through to starting school. The activities are specifially designed for each six months of your child's development and to ensure that you understand the importance of that stage for learning.

It is similar to growth of a tree.
